PHNOM PENH: At least five Cambodians have died, apparently from drinking herbicide-tainted water, according to police in the eastern province of Kratie. Provincial governor Va Thorn said on Saturday that another 28 people had been taken to hospitals for treatment after drinking polluted water. It is believed that an agricultural herbicide had leaked into a stream in the area, the governor said, adding that one person died Thursday and the other four Friday. The victims were three women and two men ranging in age from 34 to 70. Authorities are investigating the matter, including to determine whether the deaths could have been caused by anything else, according to police.
